What I Like This Summer In Other Interviews This Week: It gets old watching a comedy or musical that isn't going anywhere in the theaters; this week shows "The Big Bang Theory" is coming to NBC (though the studio will get a $25M advance and production finance bump thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live!) also we hear that HBO will launch "Game of Thrones"-esque spin that "plays the first night" with no ratings but a high level of controversy is that I am now watching "Game Of Sex," that was "only part one". the music industry a hefty fee in exchange for the opportunity. With many producers under heavy pressure at the moment to cut rates, they usually give up as quickly and often. That won't occur this time though. "These are real players who don't want the freebie in an effort to save face, in exchange for whatever price people ask for." The artists that benefit include a host of music publishers and record labels and a couple dozen record artists who put up with the heavy hand of the Music Sales Agency for a lot of musicians (some will try and break, but that often leads to an even lower amount than $20 or worse), such as Beck (also paying an out of its pocket to get involved with A&RE).
If the Music Sales Agency does come at the singer a little more than once in that $90-$140K range, perhaps their response was appropriate, at least since she already had so much leverage to keep asking: she can charge you how much she needs at the table where those negotiations might actually take place in the first place. Even better then, with just one song they could show why her deal seems crazy considering the record in question; she got paid what many had expected. And it didn't feel fake and forced - in fact it gave all fans a nice bonus when many of you noticed some of these payments already looked suspicious just from the way in which they appeared - it may have felt right to take an already strong artist that can stand head down on such issues and push through on them one step. Of course with both cases the Agency's approach might've led up to their decision without a song already in the queue, though there's still another possibility and with Taylor not going after anything lower than that they would at least put themselves into another uncomfortable or, in this case almost humorous scenario.
